BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Bronxville's Mary Cain has returned home and has left the Nike Oregon Project, according to a report in The Oregonian.
Cain's coach, three-time New York City Marathon winner Alberto Salazar, said she was still a member of the team. The 19-year-old distance runner moved to Oregon two years ago to train with Salazar.
Cain became the youngest U.S. track and field athlete to make a World Championships team in 2013 when she was 17. She finished 10th in the 1,500 meters at the World Championships in 2013.
Cain finished fifth in an 800 meter race at the Armory Track Invitational on Jan. 31 and was eighth in the Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games on Feb. 14. She finished 25th in an outdoor 1,500 meter race in California on May 9.
