BRONX, N.Y. The Bronxville High School girls and boys cross country teams swept the League II-D championships Monday on the 2.5-mile course at Van Cortlandt Park.
Meredith Rizzo took the individual girls title while Dayton Flannery finished first overall among the boys to lead their respective teams over second-place Pelham in both events. It was the 32th consecutive league title for the girls.
Bronxvilles girls earned 19 points to outdistance Pelham with 50, Edgemont 85, Mamaroneck 118 and Eastchester 129. The boys scored 24 followed by Pelham with 76, Eastchester with 81, Mamaroneck with 87 and Edgemont, 91.
What a beautiful day and what a great run by Meredith, Broncos girls coach Jim Mitchell said. The really big races are still in the future but the team seems to be peaking at the right time.
Rizzo ran the course in 15:04, followed by Pelhams Nicki Nessi with Broncos teammates Courtney Campbell, Emilie Hoffer, Argentina Chrappa, Amelia Phillips, Delia Hayes, Morgan Nobles, Hilary Rizzo and Nicola Phillips earning third through 10th places overall.
Flannery, who ran a sparkling 13:34 to pace the boys, was closely followed by his brother Johnny Flannery, Thaddeus Sheenan (Mamaroneck) and Bronxvilles Tyler Grantham. Matt Buffuyo of Pelham placed fifth.
