Bronxville Hosts Blind Brook in Class C Playoff

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Can anyone beat Bronxville?

The defending Section 1 and Class C State Champion Bronxville football team begins defense of its title Saturday when it hosts fourth-seeded Blind Brook in a 1:30 p.m. start.

The unbeaten Broncos (7-0) have tossed aside all comers, winning 19 straight games overall beginning with last season’s 12-0 run to the title and have won 25 consecutive Section 1 games dating back to 2009. They ended the regular season last week with a dominating 34-8 victory over larger school Class A Pearl River, which had been unbeaten in six games.

Blind Brook (6-1) suffered its lone loss to Class D No. 1 seed Haldane and has a season-opening win against Class C third-seed Woodlands, but has played a less demanding schedule than the Broncos, who have beaten Class C No. 2 seed Dobbs Ferry and defending Class D champion Tuckahoe, as well as Pearl River.

The Broncos backfield of Christian Conway and Jackson Conway have been the constant over the last 19 games, driving defense back and piling up yards with Christian already over 1,400 rushing yards and has scored 23 touchdowns with his twin Jackson leading the way. The brothers also anchor the defense, which has not been as tough as last year, but still held opponents to 93 points or 13.4 points a game this fall. Max Boyd is the quarterback with an improving passing game.

Blind Brook relies on senior quarterback Jaime Ketchebaw, who is key to the Trojans ability to move the ball, which has been done by teams this year against the Broncos.  Joe Joyce is a good receiver and helps the defense from his defensive back slot. Running back/linebacker Jon Kulick must carry the load on offense and defense.

Unless the weather intrudes, the Broncos should be able to move the ball on the ground on their turf and win their 20th straight game. Blind Brook’s only chance in this matchup is to control the ball, limit the Conway Express and keep the score down.
