BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- The Bronxville girls relay team of Courtney Campbell, Hilary Rizzo, Kaitlin Ryan and Meredith Rizzo placed third Saturday in the Eastern High School Girls’ 4x800-meter relay at the Millrose Games in New York.
The Millrose Games finish capped off a week that saw the Bronxville team win its 17th consecutive Section 1 Class C championship.
The Broncos girls scored in all but one event in the Section 1 meet, led by first-place finishers Emilie Hoffer in both the 1,000-meter and 1,500-meter runs, Meredith Rizzo in the 600 meters and Argentina Chrappa in the 3,000 en route to a 173-110 finish over second-place Pawling.
"It was a very nice team effort," Bronxville coach Jim Mitchell said. "The girls scored in every event except the pole vault," for which no one entered, he said. "Emilie Hoffer was the star of the meet with two very impressive wins in the 1,000 and 1,500. Meredith Rizzo is returning nicely after missing cross country due to her foot injury last spring. She won the 600 in a quick time."
Mitchell's teams have won 27 Section 1 titles overall and the last 17 straight during his three decades as coach.
The Broncos, who traditionally field strong relay teams, swept the 4x400-meter relay (Nicola Phillips, Jess Tighe, Hilary Rizzo, Kaitlin Ryan), the 4x200 (Ana Timoney, Caroline DePaul, Sophie Kohlhoff, Lucy Kohlhoff) and the 4x800 relay (Amelia Phillips, Laura Holland, Caroline Kirby, Delia Hayes). Courtney Campbell placed second in the 1,000 and third in the 1,500 to help pile up the points for Bronxville.
"Argentina Chrappa won the 3,000 with her best time for the event," Mitchell. "She is maturing into a very strong distance runner. The Kohlhoff sisters were each second in the 55 meters (Sophie) and the 300 (Lucy). And we easily won all three relays. This was our 17th consecutive and 27th overall win."
