Meredith Rizzo (2:18), Courtney Campbell (2:16), Kaitlin Ryan (2:19) and Hillary Rizzo (2:21) each ran a strong 800-meter leg in qualifying for the state meet last week in a time of 9:15.08 over the distance.
"This relay is doing very well," Bronxville coach Jim Mitchell said. "It is ranked third in the state and they were the Westchester County champions and placed third in the Millrose Games."
Seniors Campbell and Meredith Rizzo, who returned from an injury late in the winter season to spark the team, set the pace for Rizzo's younger sister, Hillary, and Ryan, a strong freshman runner.
"We all hope to do really well at states," Campbell said. "We've been working really hard all season to get to Cornell and we want to win. We are also looking to (run personal record) with all of us running 2:18 or better."
Rizzo's recovery was a pleasant surprise for her and the team.
"This group feels great together," Meredith Rizzo said. "We really mesh and work well together. There's a lot of support between all of us and I know that I can depend on them and they can depend on me. It feels really amazing being back. I had no idea what to expect for the winter season. I am so lucky to be here with these awesome girls."
Mitchell is expecting a good weekend and looking ahead to next week's challenge.
"Meredith is running very well and it's great to have her back," Mitchell said. "Courtney is also running very well in the lead-off position. The following Saturday, they are running at Nationals at The Armory (New York City) and have a good chance to be All-Americans."
