Bronxville Faces Pawling For Section 1 Field Hockey Title

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – The Section 1 Field Hockey Championships will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday with a tripleheader at Mamaroneck High School.

The winners in each class advance to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association regional semifinals Saturday at Lakeland High School.

The Class C final will open the day at 3 p.m. as top-seeded and defending champion Bronxville plays second-seeded Pawling. The Broncos advanced with a 7-0 victory against Irvington in their semis while Pawling needed strokes to defeat North Salem.

Host Mamaroneck, the No. 1 seed and four-time defending champion, meets Suffern, the No. 2 seed, at 5 p.m. in the Class A title game. These teams played in the 2008 final with Mamaroneck winning. Suffern is the only Rockland County school to reach a sectional field hockey final. Mamaroneck be aiming for its fifth consecutive sectional crown, the Tigers have won six this millennium.

The finale, at 7 p.m., is the Class B championship game with three-time defending sectional and state titlist Lakeland, the top seed, playing second-seeded Rye. This is the fourth straight year these teams have played for the Class B title.

Lakeland has won six sectional titles since 2000 while Rye has claimed five.
