Balanced Bronxville Runs to Class C Track Title

VALHALLA, N.Y. – Chris Behrens, Mary Cain, Fiona Roediger, Tomas Hudson and Delia Hayes and a group of strong relay teams keyed the Bronxville High School track and field team's run to both the Section 1 Class C boys and girls track titles Wednesday at Valhalla High School.

Cain won both the 1,500 and 800-meter races, Behrens took the 110-meter hurdles for the second straight year and Hayes surprised the field by winning the 3,000-meter run, an event she had not run in competition before, in 11:06.

"We do our best in each event to get as many points for the team as we can," Behrens said, after he joined teammates John Harrison and J.P. Donohue to take three of the first four spots in the hurdles. "We all have strengths in different events. And we all support each other."

Hudson added points to the Broncos score sheet by winning the boys high jump with a leap of 6-feet even and John Flannery, John Vetromile, Tyler Grantham and Brian Forst won the 4X800 relay for Bronxville. Roediger took first place overall in the demanding pentathlon and Luke Marrone tied for the longest jump in the long jump event with an effort of 19-5, but was edged for the title on misses.

"The hurdles can be tough because you have to be on mark, run through the jumps and keep you speed," Harrison said. "When you have several events you want to reach for as many points as you can get for the team. We would like to get 1-2-3 finishes every time but team scoring is the goal."

The Bronxville girls dominated the relays, winning the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 team titles. Sophie Kohlhoff, Caroline DePaul, Jamie Carroll and Lucy Kohlhoff took the 4x100, Annelise Hudson, Lucy Kohloff, Courtney Campbell and Meredith Rizzo won the 4x400, and Jordan Sears, Morgan Nobels, Bridgett Reilly and Nicola Phillips took the 4x800.

For the Broncos' girls and boys, the team effort paid off in Class C team titles.
