The actors present “High School Musical” from Friday, April 24 to Saturday, April 26. They selected the show because they grew up with the film, loved the story and were already familiar with the lines. “It is very Disney meets ‘Grease’ and ‘West Side Story,’” said director and WHS English teacher Nicole Masi. “I’m blown away with the amount of talent the children have. They are so dynamic and they bring that to the stage. They bring layers to their characters, and that’s why it’s interesting.” The play follows Troy Bolton, a high school basketball star who wants to try out for his school’s play. While his friends and family only have an athletic mindset, he auditions anyway, and earns the lead role. The Woodlands theater students have been rehearsing their lines, lyrics and choreography since February and are looking forward to opening night. For the past two months, they rehearsed three afternoons each week. There are approximately 25 actors in the show with 15 stage crew members. Performances will take place on Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 25 at 4 p.m. and Sunday, April 26 at 3 p.m. in the Woodlands Middle/High School auditorium. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.
