It is inviting musically talented, female high school seniors in Fairfield County, Conn., and Westchester County, N.Y., to submit applications by Oct. 16.

The program, honoring the legacy of the choral ensemble’s founder, identifies and supports young female vocalists and instrumentalists from Westchester and Fairfield counties with scholarship prizes and performance opportunities.

Recognizing “female musicians from the region who demonstrate exceptional musical talent,” the competition will award a $500 scholarship prize to the winner and a $250 prize to the runner-up.

Eligible applicants are female high school seniors planning to attend an accredited college, university or conservatory upon graduation who both reside in and attend public or private high schools in Westchester and Fairfield counties.

The competition winners will also be showcased in special performances during Westfair’s concert season.

All interested applicants should visit www.westfair.org for an application form, instructions for submitting audition videos, and a description of scholarship terms.

“Westfair is excited to launch this new program to support exceptional female musicians in our region and honor the vision of our founder, Judith Hahnssen-Schwab," said Lettitia Long, president of Westfair’s board of directors, drawing upon Hahnssen-Schwab’s mission for the group.

"Our ensemble continues to find inspiration in her commitment to creating performances that make a difference, touch lives and speak to the community with a balance of spirit, beauty, harmony and joy," said Long.

Founded in 1987, the Westfair Singers celebrate the heart and light of women’s voices in performances throughout the region. The choral ensemble brings together women who share the joy of performing music of quality and beauty while they develop their musicianship, knowledge and vocal skills.

Mary Jane Newman, an internationally acclaimed conductor, keyboardist and recording artist, has served as musical director since 2009.

In addition to the scholarship competition, Westfair’s annual schedule includes major concerts in December and May, and other special appearances in the region.
