TUCKAHOE, N.Y. - With Tuckahoe Middle School Principal Ellen McDonnell being promoted to Assistant Superintendent, the Board of Education has tabbed a former Mamaroneck educator to fill the vacancy.

At a special Board of Education meeting on Monday, the trustees unanimously voted to appoint Carrie Amon as interim Middle School Principal, effective Monday, Aug. 1.

The move comes as part of a districtwide reshuffle after former Assistant Superintendent Carl Albano was named as the permanent replacement for interim Superintendent Charles Wilson earlier this year.

Amon comes to Tuckahoe from Mamaroneck, where she served the last 13 years as the Principal of Mamaroneck Elementary School until her recent retirement. She also has experience working as a professional development coach for that district.

After conducting a search this year for a permanent principal, “the district was not able to secure a candidate with the level of experience and track record believed necessary to serve as the long term Middle School principal and decided to select an interim with significant leadership experience.”

“I believe (her) strong knowledge of literacy, special education and English as a new language programs combined with her extensive background as a school building leader in a high performing Westchester County school district make her a very good fit for out middle school at this time,” Albano said.

With Amon on board on an interim basis, the Board will conduct an extensive nationwide search beginning in the winter in an attempt to “increase its chances of securing the most highly qualified candidate to consider for the permanent position.”
