As part of the “ANDRUS Backpack Bonanza for Children,” schools officials have been busy collecting everything that students from kindergarten through ninth grade that may be in need to outfit them for the new school year.
From pens and pencils to binders and notebooks, ANDRUS has teamed with local community groups, businesses and individual residents to collect everything needed to stuff a backpack for nearly 4,000 students in need.
All donations will support children in the special education Orchard School, mental health clinics, various other early childhood, after school and community programs. Donations can be dropped off throughout the month at the ANDRUS Campus on North Broadway in Yonkers.
There will be a special treat for the generous individuals donating on Thursday, as students and faculty members will be on hand with “lemonade, snacks and much gratitude.”
A fully-stocked backpack for students in kindergarten through sixth grade includes:
- 3 one-subject notebooks or marble books
- 2 folders
- Calculator
- Erasers
- Homework pad
- Glue stick
- Plastic ruler
- Pencil case/box
- Colored pencils
- Markers
- Crayons
- Pencils
- Pens
For middle school students:
- One or two-inch binder
- Colored tab dividers
- 2 packets of paper
- Three-subject notebooks
- 2 pocket folders
- Erasers
- Plastic ruler
- Plastic protractor
- Homework pad
- Scientific calculator
- Pens
- Pencils
- Colored pencils
- Highlighters
