Last month, the district commissioned an Indoor Air Quality screening at Greenacres, performed by Registered Hygienist Ernest Coon, with sample detection performed by Environmental Laboratory Services.

School officials said that the “comprehensive screening was conducted to test for the existence of any air-related hazards in the environment, including carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, formaldehyde, total petroleum hydrocarbons, biological/bio-aerosol sampling (which includes mold), temperature, total nuisance dust, and relative humidity.”

In total, more than 400 tests were conducted in all rooms throughout the building and the unoccupied basement area. Officials said that elevated mold scores were found in four rooms and the basement, prompting remediation efforts that were completed over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Following the holiday, the district announced that they’ve re-tested the affected areas with all results showing that remediation efforts were successful.

According to Scarsdale Schools Superintendent Thomas Hagerman, the district is working on a long-term plan for “focused, cyclic air-testing throughout the District as part of the annual budget process.”
