“Girls in the Media,” utilized Hernandez' advertising executive background to discuss campaigns that aim to change how advertising and marketing firms portray women.
The presentation was for Chapel School students in grades three through six, intended as a way to empower female students as they prepare to navigate the emotional period of middle school.
The presentation left quite an impression with students. Fifth-grade teacher Jean Ambroselli spoke about the effect that the slideshow had on her class, as the students are asked to write down what they learned from the week of class through the year.
“A majority of the girls wrote down the presentation,” Ambroselli noted.
“The girls in my class loved it and have been talking about it all week,” added fourth-grade teacher Lynn McAloon.
Administrators at the school were grateful for Hernandez' presentation.
“We want to build their self-esteem and allow them to confidently engage in discussions,” guidance counselor Cathy Price said.
The Chapel School is at 172 White Plains Road in Bronxville.
