Dobbs Ferry's Mercy College Celebrates New President With Operation Cupcake

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- The celebration of the arrival of Tim Hall as the new president of Mercy College will be a piece of cake for the region’s political and business leaders.

The college in Dobbs Ferry will hand deliver 50 cupcakes to leaders in the community Monday, April 13, as part of inauguration week. Hall’s official inauguration will be Friday, April 17.

Operation: Cupcake will deliver cupcakes to Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, designer Rolando Santana, a Mercy College grad, White Plains Mayor Tom Roach, White Plains YMCA executive director Cynthia Rubino, who is also a Mercy grad, and Daily Voice CEO Carll Tucker, among others.

“This is a fun and different way to get our message out to the community,’’ said Catherine Cioffi, director of public relations for Mercy. “It sets the tone for the week. This is a fun and exciting time for the College – we want to celebrate our new chapter.”

People who receive the cupcakes will be asked to share a photo of them enjoying their treat, as well as well wishes for Hall on social media, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.

Other activities during the course of the week include a fitness boot camp, jam session, a dodge ball game (“Ball with Hall”) that will raise money for Make-A-Wish, and a field trip to the Central Park Zoo.

Hall is the 12th president at Mercy College. He previously served for seven years as president of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. Under Hall’s leadership, Austin Peay experienced significant increases in enrollment and funding, and received distinctions in 2012 and 2013 as one of the Great Colleges to Work For by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

During Hall’s years at Austin Peay, President Barack Obama and Microsoft founder Bill Gates praised the university for its innovative use of technology to support student success. Publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and The Chronicle of Higher Education all spotlighted Austin Peay during Hall’s tenure as president.
