BRONXVILLE, N.Y. Concordia College had its homecoming Saturday without any fights, and with only one student getting sick from drinking too much liquor a clear sign of how safe the Bronxville college is, said freshman Bryant Cuevas.
Concordia is a little bit too safe, Cuevas said. Im obviously just kidding, but I really do feel safe here. Theres no real fights, and I never hear about any serious crimes being committed. Nobody wants to cause any trouble; they just go about their business, and thats a good feeling.
The small, residential college of 850 students has had no arrests, hate crimes or fires in the past three years, according to crime data reported by the school. The data also show that in 2011, the college only had one on-campus criminal offense, an act of burglary, in addition to four drug violations and 21 liquor law violations.
With college students, liquor and drug-abuse violations are inevitable, "but we do a good job with enforcement," said Dean Sherry Fraser.
We do such a good job with keeping the college safe because we consider our school a very large family, Fraser said. Everyone in our family understands the parameters of what we expect in terms of behavior. We do an excellent job at explaining our expectations during freshmen orientation so that all students are on the same page."
"Our students want to uphold the excellence that classes before them have established for the school," Fraser added.
