The school's fifth- and sixth-grade group started The Dragon Fly Book Club. The eight-week club meets and discusses books once a week.

"Middle School can be a tough time for girls in particular," school officials said. "This club was formed as a way to empower the female students and set them up for a lifelong love of reading."

Representatives said The Chapel School is looking to challenge the students to "stretch their abilities" and teach them to take pride in their efforts and accomplishments.

“We choose books with relatable, strong, independent female characters,” representatives said. "We want each of our students to engage in reading not only for school but for fun.”

Representatives said The Dragon Fly Book Club has already led to new friendships, increased reading comprehension skills and the ability to share and respect opinions, according to a release.
