She received this honor during the baccalaureate service at Village Lutheran Church.
The award is given in memory of Hess, who was the minister of music at the church from 1987-95. While he was serving in this capacity, he organized a program involving crucifers and torchbearers and called it The Order of St. Philip.
Hess passed away due to violence in 1995, and the award was created in the hopes that his Christian ideals might live on.
“Honoring a young person who demonstrates leadership and commitment to excellence in worship is such a beautiful way to remember Bob Hess,” the Rev. Robert Hartwell said. “Rebecca is a wonderful role model, and we are proud of her dedicated effort.”
Village Lutheran Church is at 172 White Plains Road.
