BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - After more than a decade at the helm of the Bronxville School District, Superintendent David Quattrone has announced his intention to step down at the end of the upcoming academic year.

Earlier this year, Quattrone confirmed to the Board of Education that after months of contemplation, he will retire at the end of the 2016-17 year after helping usher in his successor seamlessly.

According to Quattrone, who will complete his 25th year as a school superintendent this June, district administration “believes that the plan in place is in the best interest of the students, faculty, leadership team and the educational program.”

As part of the agreement, Quattrone’s contract was extended one year to facilitate the transition to a new administration.

“Since the end of December, the Board and I have discussed the issue (of retirement) with the shared goal of entrusting that the current administrative team and I would be in the strongest position to build upon the gains we have made in our educational mission,” he said. “(We want to) sustain the momentum that has been generated for the Bronxville Promise.”

Since transitioning from the Indian Hill School District in Ohio to Bronxville in August 2005, Quattrone has overseen one of the Lower Hudson Valley’s top achieving districts. During his tenure, Bronxville students have had some of the highest graduation rates each year, with some of the top standardized testing scores in the state.

The Board of Education will now undergo an extensive, nationwide search for Quattrone’s successor, who will take over for the longtime superintendent in 15 months.

“Under David’s leadership, Bronxville has remained consistently among the top school districts in the country, not only in terms of the accomplishments of our students, but in the educational innovations we have made and continue to make in an ever-changing educational landscape,” Board President Denise Tormey said.

“His dedication to our students, faculty and fellow members of the leadership team has been, and will continue to be, exemplary and invaluable as we move ahead to insulate the Bronxville Promise in every aspect of our school.”
