Bronxville Schools Compete To End Hunger In Westchester

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – With the holiday season fast approaching, students in the Bronxville School District already are getting into the giving spirit, teaming with Move for Hunger for a food drive competition.

Beginning on Friday, Oct. 24, students in Grades 6-12 will collect nonperishable goods in a three week race to see which grade can gather the most food donations from family and friends.

In addition to the food, students and volunteers also will sell T-shirts commemorating the food drive with proceeds going to benefit families in Westchester that suffer from hunger.

Once the food drive concludes on Friday, Nov. 14, volunteers from Al’s Moving and Storage in White Plains will take the food donations to the Food Bank For Westchester in Elmsford.

According to Move for Hunger Executive Director Adam Lowy, more than 2.7 million people in New York live on incomes that may put their families at the risk of hunger and 34 percent of those at risk are children. In all, the organization has delivered more than 3,500,000.

“It’s great to see the Bronxville School use a competition to involve their students in helping fight against hunger,” he said. “We’re excited to see that commitment to help those in need.”
