On Thursday, the School Foundation announced that they were pledging $526,000 to the Board of Education to provide resources for 27 grants that will improve the education experience for students district wide.

According to the board, “the grants encompass technology, professional development, cultural enrichment activities and instructional materials and equipment.”

“These grants continue to support our mission on pursuing innovative ideas, piloting new programs, providing state-of-the-art technology and making improvements to our facilities,” Bronxville School Foundation Chair Ashley Hanrahan said. “We’re grateful for the community’s support.”

Following up on last year’s Google Chromebook initiative, which gave students access to the devices throughout the district, this year’s grants will include the introduction of more laptops and tablets, while supporting the redesign of several classrooms in the middle and high school that will be phased in throughout the next academic year.

“The new designs focus on organizing space around small group work and student-directed learning,” the board noted in a joint statement. “There is also a professional development component to this work, training teachers to use the space in creative ways.”

Bronxville Superintendent David Quattrone said that he, the Board of Education and the School Foundation have spent months getting ready for the grant process.

“We had many meetings with the grants committee to align the grant applications with district goals and to find opportunities to avoid duplication and contain costs,” he added.

Grant requests were submitted from teachers, parents, administrators and students, with members of the Board of Education and School Foundation determining which would be most beneficial for Bronxville students.

“This year’s grant awards will enable our teachers to continue to innovate and implement new programs,” Lisa Barr, the vice president of grants for the School Foundation said. “It will create a more challenging and enriched environment for our students. “
