Bronxville School Accepts $1.95 Million Donation

BRONXVILLE N.Y. -- Just two months after a $4.5 million bond was approved to renovate its auditorium, The Bronxville School received a multi-million dollar donation.

The Bronxville School Foundation's executive director Peggy Williams presented the Bronxville Board of Education with a $1.95 million donation toward the renovation of the school's auditorium.

The Bronxville School Foundation's Final Act Project presented the Bronxville Board of Education with a $1.95 million donation toward the renovation of the school's auditorium.

The donation is a part of the public/private partnership that the Board established as a way to achieve long-range goals in times of financial stringency. The donation will also go to upgrade the Middle School science labs.

The donation supplements an earlier $850,000 grant by the Foundation, said executive director Peggy Williams.

"The Bronxville School has been working very hard to get the funds to renovate its auditorium," said Williams. "Last Spring we embarked on a mission to raise money for the cause, but we had no idea how successful we would be. We wanted to make the connection very clear to residents about how raising the money would make our performing arts center better for generations to come."

Students will benefit from this effort for many years in the future and will further establish a standard of excellence for the school, said Bronxville Schools Superintendent David Quattrone.

"As we looked at the long-term needs of the school we realized making the changes we wanted to make wasn't possible with our school's financial situation," said Quattrone. "The fact that the community was able to step up and raise this kind of money just says wonders. This project is a once-a-century opportunity, and this particular effort makes it possible to move beyond the adequate to something very special."

The fundraising effort gained additional momentum when an anonymous donor matched contributions of up to $750,000, said Williams.

"We started the campaign in April and by June we knew that we were going to raise the money," said Williams. "It was incredibly generous and it wasn't even a small group of people who made the difference. Because of the matching gift campaign, residents said that their donations could make that much more of a difference. The money we raised made an important and powerful statement about the community."
