EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – The Bronxville Board of Education opted for a familiar face to replace longtime administrator John Kehoe, promoting Rachel Kelly, the district leader for special education programs.

Kelly, who was named assistant superintendent on Thursday, May 8, has served in her current role for nearly two decades. She is the latest hire as the district continues its succession plan that began in 2011 .

As assistant superintendent, Kelly will still be responsible for pupil services and special education, but now also will assume human resources and negotiating responsibilities. Schools Superintendent David Quattrone will take over the safety and village liaison functions that had been assigned to Kehoe prior to his retirement .

Kelly’s appointment follows that of an all-new elementary school leadership team , led by Principal Patricia Murray and Curriculum Coordinator Heidi Menzel, earlier this year. New Principal Ann Meyer is also poised to complete her first year at the helm of the high school next month.

“I look forward to the new opportunity to serve Bronxville,” she said. “I’m fully committed to ensuring that we maintain the high quality of programs and services for our students with special needs.”

Kehoe, who retired in January following a distinguished 32-year career, has opted to stay within the district, serving as the director of operations for 18 months - through the 2015 academic year – to help ease Kelly’s transition into the leadership position.

“District leadership is examining roles and responsibilities, with an eye toward maintaining continuity of services and advancing school programs,” Quattrone said about the transition. “Kehoe will serve as director of operations at a time that the district is pursuing major construction and rising enrollment .”
