Bronxville Elementary School Installs New Leadership Team

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – With Patricia Murray tabbed as the newest principal of the Bronxville Elementary School, the Board of Education has been hard at work putting together a team around her that will lead the school moving forward.

Adrienne Laitman, a longtime fixture in the district, will serve as assistant principal under Murray. Heidi Menzel, who has served as interim principal during a two-year transition, will serve as curriculum coordinator for the school.

This marks the first time that the district has a complete leadership team in place after two years laden with interim appointments. The team was officially approved by the board at its last meeting.

The vacancy at the elementary school was created at the end of 2012, when former principal Thomas Wilson, who was at the helm of the school for nearly a decade, was promoted to the same position at the middle school.

“Considering all the uncertainty with the shuffling of principals and everything, the school is still one of the best in the area,” Catherine Jenkins, a parent of two, said while picking up her son from school. “It’s a testament to the people we have running the district that it continues to operate so smoothly.”

Laitman, who has served as an interim assistant principal during the transition, has been a part of the district for nearly two decades. She was instrumental in developing an internship program with LIU-Hudson and began a program where teachers visit their peers’ classrooms to cohesively learn about how to design effective lessons.

According to Superintendent David Quattrone, Menzel - who was the assistant principal for 16 years before assuming the role of interim principal for the last two years – will be tasked with evaluating elementary school teachers and will be the district’s primary information officer.

“(Menzel) is a capable, thoughtful and caring professional whose practical approach strengthened a climate of trust and collaboration in her school,” he said.
