New Bronxville Construction Blends In Well With Older Neighborhood

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- The home at 50 Masterton Road is unique. On a street where many homes were built nearly a century or even longer ago, the new construction melds well with the neighborhood.

“The architect wanted to make it look like it belonged there,’’ said listing agent Tracy Murray of Bronxville Real Estate. “I think it blends in very well with the town. It transforms that corner and it’s a nice, welcoming home.”

The five-bedroom, six-bath home is listed for $5,470,000 and offers 6,526 square feet of living space on .35 acres.

While new construction is highly sought-after, particularly in the Masterton Road area of Bronxville, it is hard to find. A Seattle architect skillfully incorporated the natural landscape into the exterior design of the home, while North Carolina architect Ruard Veltman implemented interior features that combine traditional and non-traditional design.

“I love the architectural design,’’ Murray said. “I love how they manipulated the topography. Rock was excavated to accommodate the new building, and he took that whole concept into consideration.”

Murray said the home is best described as a “French eclectic” style. The kitchen is flanked by a working pantry with hidden service access to the formal spaces at the front of the house. There is a private family room in the rear of the home that leads to an outdoor terrace and is steps away from green space.

The downstairs includes a lounge, home gym, theater and wine room.

The upstairs was designed to achieve comfort and privacy.

“It was a true collaboration between the builder, the architect and the owner of the property,’’ Murray said. “They went over all the details.”

For a home that speaks to the 1800s from the outside, the interior speaks to the demands of today’s homebuyers.

“Details like the plaster backsplash, the tudor arch over the cooker hood and the use of the material are just some things I’ve never seen before,’’ Murray said. “It’s a one of a kind design, that’s for sure.”

In an era when unique home design seems to be a lost art, Murray believes the home’s character, charm and quality match the rich mix of the other showpiece homes on Masterton Road.

“They knew they needed an architect to envision it and went to North Carolina to find him," Murray said. "The owner went to every effort and expense to create something really beautiful, and I think they achieved it.”
