It happened on Tuesday, March 12 in North Lawrence, according to Nassau County Police.
Just before 6 p.m., 44-year-old William B. Foster walked into the Marshalls located at 345 Rockaway Turnpike.
The loss prevention officer at the store reportedly recognized Foster from a previous theft at the store and contacted the police.
By the time police arrived at the scene, Foster was in front of the nearby DSW and ran from the incoming officers.
After a foot chase, during which Foster is accused of injuring an officer, he was apprehended and taken into custody, where it was discovered that the man was also responsible for a string of larcenies at the Burlington Coat Factory, also at 345 Rockaway Turnpike, as well as a robbery earlier in the year.
Police said the injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Foster is charged with:
- Assault;
- Robbery;
- Petit larceny, two counts; and
- Resisting arrest.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at Hempstead’s First District Court on Wednesday, March 13.
