Although 23-year-old Rayan A. Parrish of Greenbrier, TN has a carrying permit in his state, it isn't valid in New Jersey, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.

Officer John Tarantino found the 9mm Glock and 15-round magazine after stopping his car for an obstructed windshield, the chief said.

"At the direction of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, preliminary charges were filed against [Parrish]for possession of unlawful ammunition," Ackerman said. "Additional charges may be filled following further review by the Prosecutor’s Office.

"At the time of the arrest legal questions arose over the way with weapon was transported and its proximity to the ammunition," the chief said. "There is also the issue of the weapon being transported over state lines, which is under investigation."

Parrish was released on a summons pending an April 14 first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

The weapon and ammunition were confiscated as evidence, Ackermann said.
