Motorist Going Wrong Way Drives Mile-And-Half On I-287

ELMSFORD. N.Y. -- A motorist suffering from a medical condition driving the wrong on Interstate 287 caused havoc on Monday morning, but the incident ended safely.

An unidentified motorist drove about one-and-a-half miles westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-287 between Exit 8 near Elmsford before being halted by a HELP truck at Exit 9A, according to state police.

No one was hurt, police said, but an eastbound tractor-trailer truck sideswiped a car as they tried to avoid the wrong-way driver.

State police said the errant motorist was suffering from a diabetic condition while entering I-287 in the wrong direction at about 9:44 a.m. Monday.
