Jody Fischl was fast asleep at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday night when Ava began barking and barking.
The black lab/beagle mix — currently with A Pathway to Hope in North Haledon — was standing “as erect as could possibly be,” Fischl said. The foster mom knew something wasn't right.
“I opened the bedroom door and Ava ran right down the hall,” said Fischl of the puppy, who was found running loose in the Bronx two weeks ago. “She stood by our wood stove and wouldn’t leave.”
Fischl went over to the stove and heard a faint sizzling coming from the cast-iron pot. As it turns out, Fischl and her husband had forgotten to put water inside of it and it was burning dry.
“I don’t know what could’ve happened,” Fischl told Daily Voice. “I don’t know if our house would’ve burned down, but you never know.”
Fischl feels the best reward for Ava would be a forever family.
