Political Parties See Mixed Results in Cresskill, Closter, Demarest Races

Four candidates each vied for two council seats in both Closter and Demarest on Tuesday.

Closter Democrat Jannie Chung received 705 votes, while Republican Alissa Jl Latner got 686. They outpaced Republican Arthur B. Dolson and Democrat Dolores A. Witko, who had 662 and 630, respectively. 

Meanwhile, Republican Thomas Hennessey and Democrat Brian D. Stabile ran for a one-year unexpired term. Results weren't available at press time.

In the Closter Local Board of Education race, Anthony Linn got 568 votes and Sung Min Lee 553 running unopposed. Also taking unopposed victories in the Closter Regional Board of Education race were Peter Micera, with 570 votes, and Maria Kim, with 505. 

Demarest voters elected Democrats Gregg F. Paster and Daryl U. Fox to the council with 487 and 473 votes, respectively. Finishing out of the running were Republicans Joseph N. Connolly (435 votes) and Howard Rifkind (370). 

In the Demarest Board of Education race, two available spots went to Kristie Woods, with 483 votes, and Theodoros Alevrontas, with 311. Eli Nachmany, with 276, finished out of the running.

Cresskill Republican Mayor Benedict Romeo (535 votes), Republican Councilman Gregory Mueller (466) and Democratic Councilwoman Kathleen Savas (486) ran uncontested.Also running unopposed for three seats were Cresskill Board of Education candidates Stephen P. Moldt (462), Rosanne Rabinowitz (408) and Sally Cummings (401). Caryn Aronson got 438 votes running uncontested for a two-year unexpired term.
