Because St. Matthew’s music director Anthony Newman is a composer as well as a keyboard virtuoso, his new works are often premiered at the series, as is the case at this concert. He will be premiering “On the Planets for Viola and Piano.” The four planets represented in the piece are Jupiter (jovial), Uranus (quirky), Venus (beautiful) and Mercury (quick, jumping from cloud to cloud). When asked what inspired him to write about the planets, Newman said: “It’s the nature of astrological implications.”

Beethoven’s “Eyeglass” duet for cello and viola will also be performed.

There will be a Christmas concert on Wednesday, Dec. 10, which includes two major Handel pieces -- a suite from the “Water Music” and the complete “Fireworks” -- plus Corelli’s Christmas Concerto.

All concerts are held Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Fellowship Room at St. Matthew’s Church, 382 Cantitoe St., Bedford. The Nov. 12 concert is $35, the Dec. 10 concert is $40; with refreshments available at intermission.
