GREENBURGH, N.Y. The Greenburgh Central School District 7 has agreed to terms with Ronald Ross to take over as superintendent of the district.
The five-year deal, which will pay Ross $235,266 in the first year of the contract, was unanimously approved last week by the board of education at its regular meeting. The contract will begin July 1 of this year and end June 30, 2017.
According to the deal, Ross salary will be determined on an annual basis by the board following an evaluation of his performance. However, in no event will the salary be less than the salary paid to him the previous year, as specified in the contract.
The Greenburgh Board of Education will also provide Ross with a cell phone and laptop computer, according to the contract.
Ross, who has served as interim superintendent since January, signed a letter of intent with the district to assume the permanent position in April. He was chosen after the board considered more than 30 candidates for the position.
At the time of the announcement, board of education President Terry Williams said Ross impressed the board with his experience as superintendent in the Mount Vernon and Roosevelt school districts. Ross three years as principal at Woodlands High School were also a factor in the decision, Williams said.
We thought that his experience, and success at it, just made him the right person for the job, Williams said at the time.
Ross 2012-2013 salary of $235,266 ranks 26th among Westchester County superintendents (out of 37 districts that submitted data), according to the New York State Department of Education. Edgemont Superintendent Nancy Taddiken will be the highest paid superintendent in the county in 2012-2013, according to the state data, with a salary of roughly $311,000.
