As a result, spending for road work and a new police tower were approved along with funds for roof repairs at Joel Barlow High School.

In a vote of 374-148, residents approved the expenditure of up to $6.753 million for a four-year road reconstruction project. The work will be funded through short-term borrowing, pending long-term financing, as recommended by the Board of Finance.

In a vote of 325-197, residents gave the go-ahead for the expenditure of up to $300,000 for a communications tower at the Police Department. That work will also be funded through short-term borrowing, pending long-term financing, as recommended by the Board of Finance.

Voters in both Redding and Easton also approved a roof project at Joel Barlow High School.

The voting result in each town was:

  • In Easton: 119 in favor of the roof project and 35 opposed to it.
  • In Redding: 366 in favor and 156 opposed
  • Total: 485 in favor and 191 opposed.

The roof project required a majority vote in both towns to be approved.

The work scheduled for the high school shared by the towns in Regional School District 9 totals $1.5 million, according to the towns' websites.

Easton's share equals 45.9 percent, or $667,845, and Redding's share equals 54.1 percent, or $787,155.

The vote approves bonds and temporary notes in that amount for the work to be done.
