Cooling Center Now Open

They don’t call a single hot day a heat wave. For the second day in a row, the temperature has pushed into the triple digits. In response, First Selectman Gordon Joseloff announced the Center for Senior Activities will remain open as a cooling center.

Located at 21 Imperial Ave., the Center for Senior Activities will remain open until 7 p.m. tonight. All residents, regardless of age, are welcome. Staff note that while seniors are particularly susceptible to the heat, young children are also at a higher risk of heat related problems.

Center for Senior Activities Director Sue Pfister and Benjamin Palmer at the center welcome people to get out of the heat and emphasize you don’t have to be a senior to use their services for refuge. Refreshments might be available for those staying late.

On Monday, Gov. M. Jodi Rell asked municipal leaders to open cooling centers in anticipation of the heat wave.
