First responders from Dobbs Ferry, Greenburgh and the Westchester County Police Department responded to a stretch of the Saw Mill River Parkway near the Lawrence Street intersection in Dobbs Ferry at approximately 6:50 p.m. during the evening commute on Monday.
Police said that the car jumped the guardrail, flew through the air and struck at least two other vehicles. Six people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and at least one involved was transported to the Westchester Medical Center for treatment. Each car suffered extensive damage during the crash.
In response, Feiner said that the crash “highlights the need for a bus stop to be constructed inside the Rivertowns Square shopping center.”
“This shopping plaza includes restaurants, a hotel, a supermarket, apartments, a movie theater and shops. A few years ago a pedestrian died in an accident crossing the parkway. It's only a matter of time before another pedestrian loses his or her life crossing the parkway at this location to go to Rivertowns Square. A bus stop is important because many employees who work at the shopping center, students who live in the apartments and young people going to the movie theater may not have cars.”
Feiner said that “the Greenburgh Town Board and Human Rights Committee has urged the county to work with Liberty Bus Company and the owners of Rivertowns Square to place a bus shelter inside the shopping center and to provide bus service from around the region to the shopping plaza.”
“It's outrageous that a major shopping plaza does not have public transportation. The closest existing bus stop is across the dangerous Saw Mill River Parkway -- on Saw Mill River Road. That bus stop is not sheltered, and consists of a bench,” he noted. “I hope this will be given the highest priority attention.”
