The grant doles out more than $100,000 to area libraries for renovation, improvements and technology capacity upgrades.
“Having worked with the libraries in supporting their applications, it is terrific to see our libraries receiving funding to become more energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and technology capable,” Senator Latimer (D-Westchester) said in a statement.
Among those awarded grants was the Eastchester Public Library, 11 Oakridge Place, which received $97,299 for its roof replacement project. The grant also awarded $10,214 to the Tuckahoe Public Library, 71 Columbus Ave., for replacing its existing fluorescent lights with energy-efficient and environment-friendly LED lights.
“I am very pleased to announce that the Tuckahoe and Eastchester libraries received over $100,000 from the New York State Library Construction Fund. These funds have a double benefit. Not only do they allow for important capital improvements, a new roof for the Eastchester library and updated lighting for the Tuckahoe library, they also free up funds to continue the excellent programs that these communities enjoy,” said Assemblywoman Paulin (D-Westchester) in a statement.
All told, the State Library Construction fund is awarding $14 million in grants this year.
“As the ranking member of the education committee, I am committed to ensuring our state has the best public libraries possible,” added Latimer in a statement. “Libraries are a gateway to learning, and everything we do to support our libraries supports learning.”
