The Times took a deep dive into the nastiness of the race along with other races in the tri-state area. Nothing in the article would be new to Westchester residents following the campaign, which has seen incumbent Republican Rob Astorino accused of accepting a Rolex watch in exchange for naming someone police chaplain, while his challenger, George Latimer, has been accused of having unpaid parking tickets and not paying his property taxes.

Astorino has denied accepting the watch, while Latimer said the property belongs to his wife and is part of an ongoing dispute involving his wife's family. Latimer has also begun to pay back the money on the unpaid parking tickets.

Hank Sheinkopf, a longtime New York political consultant, told the Times the Astorino-Latimer race could be seen as a referendum on President Donald Trump. Astorino supported Trump last year and Latimer has frequently linked the two.
