Bronxville Voters Stay Away From The Polls Tuesday

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – With all three candidates running unopposed in Tuesday’s village election, most Bronxville residents chose to stay home rather than brave the inclement weather and cast their votes.

Polls opened at 6 a.m. and by about 5:30 p.m., a meager 36 votes had been cast at Village Hall. Residents have until 9 p.m. to make their way to the voting booth.

Although the elections are unopposed, it would still be good for the voters to make their way to the polls, Election Inspector Adam Bertocci said.

“You want people to get in the habit of coming out and casting a vote, because it may be more important in future elections,” he said. “People came in and said they knew the races were unopposed, but the idea is to foster that mentality.”

Incumbent Republicans Mayor Mary Marvin, and Trustees Donald Gray and Robert Underhill will each serve another two-year term. They will be up for re-election in 2015.

“It’s definitely a little light this year, which may have been caused by the weather,” Bertocci said. “If they knew for a fact that the races were unopposed, they may not want to deviate from their normal plans.”
