BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Hunched over and agonizing in pain because of a broken back, Lucy Shively left the comfort of her bed to go out in 30-degree temperature to vote at The Bronxville School early Tuesday morning.

"This is the most important day of the year," Shively said. "I have a broken back and I still made it down here. All that matters in the end is that whoever gets elected is best for America."

Countless voters already have visited the elementary school’s multi-purpose room to vote without any problems, said election inspector Danielle Bertocci.

"Considering the number of people that have been in already, I would say things are going smoothly," Bertocci said. "People have been coming in incrementally from before they went to work and after they dropped their kids off at school.  We expect the biggest rush to be after everyone is out of work, but we are ready for them."

The school seems ready for the voters, but the voters don't seem ready to vote for a president, said Bronxville resident Scott Saffer.

"I think that this is the first election for me where I haven't had a real idea of who I wanted to be the next president," Saffer said. "I'm really unsure who would do a better job dealing with some of our major issues. At this point, I think the election could go either way."

New York State voters have until 9 p.m. to cast their ballots.
