Astorino, Molinaro, Potential Gubernatorial Candidates, Both In Cleveland

Rob Astorino and Marc Molinaro might soon have to go toe-to-toe as political rivals, but the two Hudson Valley county executives were acting like best buds at a pre-GOP convention event in Cleveland this week, according to a report by The Poughkeepsie Journal.

Westchester’s Astorino and Dutchess’ Molinaro are both weighing a run for the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2018, according to multiple reports.

The event, held Tuesday at a Mexican restaurant near the convention site where Bedford resident Donald Trump was crowned as the party's presidential nominee, gave them the chance to schmooze with Republican movers and shakers who could help them down the road, The Poughkeepsie Journal article said.

Astorino ran against the incumbent gov in 2014 and lost. But Molinaro is no slouch when it comes to campaigning. He was the mayor of the tiny village of Tivoli while still in his teens and has also been a state assemblyman.
