Acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty announced on Thursday that Simone Barrett Johnson, 29, was found guilty by a jury for assuming the identity of an Ohio woman between Thursday, Feb. 20 and Sunday, Feb. 23 in 2014.
According to McCarty, Johnson used the victim’s Marion Community Credit Union Debit Card number to pay a $181 Time Warner Cable bill and to purchase nearly $400 in shoes from NastyGal.com by utilizing the victim’s name and address in Ohio as the billing address, while having the goods shipped to her Mount Vernon home.
The victim subsequently filed a police report with the Marion City Police Department that was shared with Mount Vernon investigators. A detective tracked down Johnson using her email address and street address from the purchases, and arrested her.
During the trial, witnesses from Ohio and Kentucky testified. According to McCarty, “through her actions, (Johnson) caused the victim, who earns approximately $400 per week, a financial loss of $533 dollars. Due to the nature of the theft, that money cannot be credited back to the victim or her credit union.”
Johnson has been remanded to the Westchester County Jail. She is due back in court for sentencing on Wednesday, June 15. She faces a maximum of four years in prison.
