The Running Company on Pondfield Road reported to police that a man had just stolen several items and fled in the direction of Kraft Avenue at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21.
Police said the suspect was quickly apprehended by officers and identified as 55-year-old Middletown resident Alwarn Hillard, who was still in possession of $530 worth of clothes he had just stolen from the store. Further investigation determined that Hillard was also a suspect involved in a larceny the day before at Value Drugs.
Officers proceeded to canvas the area and apprehended a second suspect at the Bronxville Train Station who was allegedly also involved in the Value Drugs shoplifting. Police later identified him as 47-year-old Yonkers resident Paul Keenan, who was also in possession of hypodermic needles at the time of his arrest.
Both men were charged with a felony count of fourth-degree grand larceny for stealing items worth more than $1,000. Keenan was also cited for two counts of criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument. Hillard was also charged with petit larceny for stealing the clothes from the Running Company.
Following arraignment, both men were remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of bail and are due back in court next month to answer the charges.
