Police: Bronxville Woman Hits Garage, Damages Wall

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. –  A Bronxville woman was arrested June 6 after she allegedly drove her minivan into two Lake Avenue garages, potentially damaging a load-bearing wall and exposing electrical wires, Bronxville police reported.

She was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and the cause of the accident is unknown, said police spokesman Sgt. Richard Anderson. She was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of operating a motor vehicle on a suspended drivers license and released on $250 bail.

Eastchester fire officials were called to the accident, which occurred at about 5:20 p.m. to cut power to the exposed electric wires, and the village Building Department was notified that a load-bearing wall may have been compromised, Anderson said. He described the damage as being “extensive.”

Bronxville police also reported:

Driving without Insurance: A Bronx woman was arrested for allegedly driving without valid insurance and with suspended registration on Pondfield Road about 1 p.m. on June 9. Her white Nissan Altima was impounded by police.

Hit and Run: An unoccupied car parked on Tanglewylde Avenue on June 4 was damaged when struck by an unknown vehicle around 3:30 p.m. The driver left the scene. Police reported they have no suspects in the case yet.

Fire Department Activity: Eastchester firefighters responded to a call at 15 Hawthorne Road around 9:30 a.m. June 6 to find that it was triggered by steam from a shower. They also determined that a plumber’s welding equipment caused a burning odor reported on June 7 at about 2:15 p.m.

Dog Killed by Car: A Pomeranian was killed at about noon June 9 on White Plains Road at Concordia Place when it was struck by an unidentified vehicle. There were no witnesses, and the driver left the scene, police said.

Lost: A straw bag with a floral print and containing a blue wallet and a small cosmetics bag was reported lost at the Reformed Church on Pondfield Road by its owner about 8:30 p.m. June 10. The bag also contained “sentimental prayer items” that “the owner would graciously love to be reunited with,” police said.
