Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino said on Tuesday that Stivenson Desir, 19, was found guilty of one count of murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon after he shot and killed Iona student Brandon Lawrence in Lincoln Park last spring.

According to police, at approximately 3:24 a.m. on April 3 last year, the department received multiple calls of gunshots in the area of Lincoln Park. Upon arrival, first responders found a male victim inside the park, bleeding. Officers immediately began first aid, and an ambulance was dispatched, but Lawrence was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

The fatal shooting launched an intensive joint investigation that was carried out by the New Rochelle Police Department and District Attorney’s Office that revealed both Desir and Lawrence had attended a party at an apartment described as off-campus housing used by Iona College.

Following the party, a small group then made their way to Lincoln Park, where they starting fighting. During the fight, Desir took out a handgun and fired several shots, hitting Lawrence in the torso once, resulting in his death.

Desir was eventually tracked down and placed under arrest. He remains remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He is due to be sentenced on Wednesday, May 3, where he will face 25 years to life in state prison.
