Police confirmed that Officer Ken Smith, who was reported missing by his family on Wednesday when he failed to show up for work at Riker’s Island, has been located in Harlem and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Smith, 53, left his Mount Vernon home on Wednesday, but had not been heard from until now. He was feeling ill for several days, but opted to return to work at Riker’s, where he will mark his 20-year anniversary on the job on Monday.

According to police, foul play is not suspected.

"On behalf of the entire Correction community, I offer our heartfelt thanks to the individuals and agencies that helped locate our officer," Department of Corrections Commissioner Joseph Pointe said in a statement. Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas could not immediately be reached for comment after Smith was located.
