Carl “Leakumns” Ragland, 35, was convicted on felony counts of attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
On June 18 last year, at OK Freddy’s, Ragland got into an argument with his eventual victim, a female, while ordering drinks at the bar. He subsequently left the bar to hide inside a South Ninth Avenue apartment with the intention of approaching his victim.
When his victim eventually left the bar, Ragland pulled out a handgun, shooting her in the chest. She staggered across the street to call for an ambulance, prompting Mount Vernon officials to respond to the scene.
The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where she was able to give a physical description of Ragland, which led to his eventual capture.
Two days after the shooting, Ragland was found hiding in a closet in New Rochelle. He initially resisted but eventually was subdued by a combination effort of the New Rochelle and Mount Vernon Police Departments.
Ragland will be back in court on May 15 for sentencing. He faces as many as 25 years in prison. Assistant District Attorney Nadine Nagler of the Superior Court Trail Division will prosecute.
