BRONXVILLE N.Y. ‒ Two Bronxville police officers will travel to Arizona for a week of special firearms instruction thanks to an anonymous donation from a resident.
The money was donated after the resident approached Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale to tell him about a positive experience he had had at a firearms training class for hunters, Satriale said. The Board of Trustees accepted the $6,500 gift at its Oct. 1 meeting.
"The resident had such great reviews for the class that he said he wanted to send two of my firearms instructors to a similar class," said Satriale. "While the resident attended a class for civilians, our instructors will be participating in a class specific for law enforcement."
The officers will attend the week-long seminar from Oct. 12 through 19 at Gunsite Academy, a training facility in Arizona. They will then be able to teach the rest of the department, which is composed of 22 officers, said Satriale.
"While our department gets all of the necessary training, our training budget doesn't allow for efforts like this," said Satriale. "It really is such a great opportunity for our officers and for the community."
