According to officials in Scarsdale, Station 1 had become structurally deficient and the door heights were unable to accommodate modern fire apparatus, prompting the Village Board of Trustees to authorize a multi-million dollar renovation of the space.
Construction contracts were authorized in January, with work scheduled to be completed in 2019. The scope of the project includes structural stabilization, interior remodeling and lowering of the service driveway three feet to achieve a 14-foot door height.
In total, renovations are expected to cost approximately $4.3 million, which also employs exterior architectural preservation techniques.
