BRONXVILLE, N.Y. A Bronxville teenager charged with negligent vehicular homicide in the death of a friend in an ATV accident pleaded not guilty in Madison County District Court in Montana on Monday.
James Sinclair Welch, 19, is the son of Leighton Welch, founder of the multimillion-dollar hedge fund Welch Capital Partners LLC. Welch is linked to the death of his friend Parker Regan, 19. Regan died as a result of falling out of the all-terrain vehicle that Welch was driving, according to an affidavit filed by a Montana highway patrolman. The accident took place Aug. 2 in Montanas Yellowstone Club, a private ski and golf resort in Madison County.
Welch refused to submit to a breath test at the scene, according to the affidavit, so authorities obtained a warrant for his blood. The Madison County Attorney's Office had no comment about the results of Welch's blood-alcohol test.
Welch has since posted $50,000 bail and is living at home in Bronxville. He is required to wear an ankle monitor or SCRAM bracelet as a condition of his bail.
His attorney has until Oct. 26 to return his omnibus hearing order, an outline of his case, to the court, said a spokesman from the Madison County Attorney's Office. The court will then set dates to proceed with the trial.
