The incident took place around 6:29 p.m. Monday when members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to the area of 104 Schroeder St., for a report of an assault, said Det. Sgt. Dean Politopoulos.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim, a 22-year-old male with several minor non-life threatening lacerations to his hands and leg, Politopoulos added.

The victim told officers that he was attacked by a large group of men in the lobby of the building when one of the men pulled out a machete and attacked him. The men then fled the area and the victim was taken to the hospital, Politopoulos said.

Detectives from the Major Case Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded, interviewing subjects and witnesses, canvassing for surveillance video, and processing forensic evidence. The preliminary investigation found men may have known each other, and the attack doesn't appear to be a random event,  Politopoulos added.

The suspect is described as a teenage black male with dark skin, short afro hairstyle, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

A few hours later, officers were called back to the area at 5 Schroeder St., for a report of shots fired, Politopoulos said.

Upon arrival officers canvassed the area and discovered several discharged cartridge casings and possible blood evidence; the area was cordoned off and a criminal investigation was started, he added.

A preliminary investigation found that someone allegedly fired several shots in the area, but no victim(s) have been located or come forward as of this time; a check of local area hospitals yielded negative results, Politopoulos said.
