Sheila Smith Stein, 76, Former Mayor Of Bronxville

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Sheila Smith Stein of Bronxville died Aug. 10. She was 76. 

A native Minnesota and graduate of University of Minnesota, she moved to Texas with her husband, and worked at River Oaks Bank and Trust as director of Women’s Banking.  After her second marriage she moved to Bronxville where she lived for 40 years. She was elected mayor of Bronxville in 1987 and served six terms until 1993. She ran for the N.Y. State Assembly on the Republican ticket in 1994. She served on the Board of Directors of the Family Consultation Service of Eastchester, the Westchester Holocaust  Education Commission, and St. Christopher’s. 

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Martin (Fritz) Stein Jr.; six children; and 14 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. Ralph Bowen.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Reformed Church of Bronxville.
